Artificial Turf for Dogs in the Ozarks

Dogs are hard on a lawn: muddy paws after every rain, brown spots, worn paths along the fence. Artificial turf laid over a compacted rock base gives them a yard that stays green and drains, so there's no mud to track inside.

Here's what matters when you pick turf for dogs, and how our turf compares.

What to look for

1. Drainage

Rain and urine need to pass straight through. Turf makers test this as permeability, in inches per hour. Every turf we sell uses the manufacturer's Flo-Rite drainage; tested rates run from 71 to more than 150 inches per hour.

2. Pile height

Shorter blades are quicker to pick up after and rinse. Ameripet is our shortest pet turf at 1.125 in. Our lawn turfs run 1.5 to 1.75 in.

3. Durability

Running, digging and turning wear turf down. Face weight (the weight of the blades) is the best single measure: our heaviest, All Natural-75, is 75 oz per square yard and rated for light to heavy traffic.

4. Infill

Infill is the sand-like layer brushed into the blades that keeps them standing and protects the backing. Each turf has a recommended amount: 1 lb per sq ft for All Natural-75 and Ameripet, 2 lb for the Deluxe turfs. Ask us about infill choices for dog areas.

5. Care

Pick up solids, then hose the area down. Rinse spots dogs use most more often in summer. Many owners also use an enzyme cleaner made for artificial turf.
